Seams cracked!
I had to re-tape the corners and ceiling seams where the tape had come loose in my bedroon. I used "Wel-Cote All Purpouse Joint Compound". All of the joints I did have cracked and/or checked. I did not use an excessive amount, just enough to cover the mesh tape. Did I use the wrong stuff? Is it OK to sand it after it is completely dry and just go over it again? Thanks

mesh tape is not really for corners[especially inside corners]. How did you actually do it? Could be the problem.Do you mean you just put it on one side and then another piece on the other side if necessary leaving the actual corner as it was originally with the paper tape.Or did you put the mesh tape in and form a crease for the actual intersection. A little confusing I know.

Joint Compound
I used one piece and creased it into the corner and on the ceiling seam I also used one piece, and they have stayed in place. The compound is checked and has small cracks. It looks solid, though. I did get a different compound that does not crack. It's lighter and dries faster. The cracks are not wide open, just checked. Should I just give them a second coat and then check them out and if OK just go from there?

depending on how much you have put in I would take out the ones that you creased and leave the rest. The fiberglass tape is strong and will probably come out easily. It is up to you. I would do the corners with paper tape. I don't know how you creased it since it is self adhesive and difficult at best to apply to a inside corner.
Joint compound of any sort should not do what yours is doing under any circumstances. I think you may have put too much on even though you said you didn't. How many linear feet are we talking about anyway?

I have only taped 1 corner with fiberglass tape [didn't have any option other than pulling off the job and going to town]. Even though the repair was only a few feet long it made it a lot harder to finish. As joneq said jooint compound hardly ever cracks unless applied too thick. Most tape jobs require 3 coats.

I must have applied the "Welcote" thicker than I thought. I had a couple gallons of a lighter compound left over from my old house project and it seems to work really well. The project is coming along OK, a little slow as I have too many projects going at once.
Thanks for the advise, it helps!
