Question Looking for patching tips

I patched a hole on the wall with a wall repair patch. The hole was big enough that I had to use an 8 X 8 patch. I puttied it, sanded it down then attempted to retexture it with this texture spray. The spray did not look the same so I tried to hand texture it once I sprayed it on there. It looked horrible! I sanded it all off and am back to the puttied sanded down patch. My question is if you have any tips on how to blend this in with the rest of the wall, without it looking horrible? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you, Jesse

Texture

The texture I have is SPRAYTEX Orangepeel Splatter. It is a water based drywall texture. The nozzle has 3 settings on how it comes out light - medium - and heavy.

What kind of texture is on the wall? Orange peel can often be duplicated with thinned down joint compound and a sponge. Most other textures need to be sprayed. Never have used the areosol cans of texture although from what I hear more are desatisfied than are happy with it.
