Ceiling Fan in Drop Ceiling

Can this be done? What is the installation method? I was considering one of two methods:

1) Smaller fan close coupled to the ceiling mounted to a tile with four corners of the tile track suspended to the joists.

2) Fan mounted on a long drop rod that penetrates through the drop ceiling. I like this idea less because I think it might look bad and any imbalance could cause problems.

Is one of these methods the right way, or is there another way I am not thinking of?

Thanks in advance.............

I would think either with wood or metal you should be able to mount a ceiling box solidly at ceiling level.

I would imagine this is an electrical question not a ceiling question. What you plan may be ok, but I would ask in the electrical forum just to be sure. It is much easier to to it right the first time.
