Keep the current walls or wreck them

I bought a row home in Baltimore MD and I am remodeling it I was wondering if I should replace the existing wall which seems to be in alright shape all it needs is a little plaster to fill the cracks, or should I take them down all together and put up sheet rock? … The walls have been there for 100 + years so I think they might last another … any opinions

If the walls are sound, I would do whatever is possible to patch them and avoid removal. Removal and replacement can sound simple, but it rarely is.

When you start tearing out walls in a structure that old, you never know what kind of problems you will CREATE. Loads can shift, floors can rebound, cracks can appear elsewhere, etc. - Not to mention any electrical, mechanical or plumbing problems created.

Just an opinion.

I'm in favor of keeping the old walls if they are decent shape - IMO it also keeps the old flavor of the home. I would only consider tearing it out if there are other needs to consider -adding insulation, electrical outlets, etc.
