falling ceiling -- ACK!!!!
hi, everyone - i am in my first home, and this is my first post to this site.
i just bought an 80-year old house in south florida -- and it survived the hurricanes. BUT a portion of the ceiling in my laundry room is starting to come down -- there's a crack about two-feet long, and the ceiling is starting to separate. there is no water/moisture/water stain to be seen, and the roof is three-years old and seems to be just fine.
the cracks are starting to spread (of course)
what to do?? how to fix??

If its just a case of the ceiling coming loose, you can use a dead man (a "T" made from 2X4's) and wedge that between the floor and ceiling, then take drywall screws and re-attach the loose sheetrock.
Then you will need to tape and smoothe the seam with joint compound.
