connect to i-joists

I need to build a wall in a roughed in basement. It runs parallel with the ceiling joists (9 1/2" wood i-beams), and of course in between two of them. Do I need to tie into the ceiling joists, or can I just tie into the walls. I also have a soffit that goes around a vertical drain that I want to connect. How do you tie in to these i-beams?

Thanks,
Wayne O

Add 2 X 4 blocking between the two joists in question - every 16 inches. That will give you something to attach your top plate to as well as your soffit framing.

Thanks for the reply Zster - I know I need to get blocking up there, what I really need to know is how/where to attach it? The web on the i-joist? The bottom or top blocks on the i-joist? How big of a nail, or a screw? I don't know a thing about these type of joists. Drop ceiling guys won't even screw into the blocks on the joists. They're drilling holes through the web and hanging the wires from there.

Thanks again,
Wayne O
