Backers for drywall butt joints

I'm reviewing the pro and cons of three backer systems for drywall butt joints by wilco tool (Butthanger, EZ-backer, and Rock splicer). Does anyone out there have any experience with these products? What did you think? Are they better than the traditional method for butt joints (mud and tape without any backer)?

Many thanks in advance for all responses

Before I did my own project I talked to a friend who owns a drywall company. Asked him about these 'gadgets' as he called them. Without being rude I'll just say that, well, I decided against them.

They don't seem to provide any solid support for the joint, and besides that taping butt joints is not that difficult.

I'm sure others will weigh in as well. I say do it the old fashioned way. It's worked for 50 years and will work for 50 more.
