bathroom walls

the walls around my bathroom tub were soft and spongy so I torn them down to the studs. On the two short sides of the tub there are 2x4's in good condition. The long side of the tub is agaist a brick wall and there are furring strips that are pretty warped. How do i fastened new furring strips to the brick? the tub is only about 1 1/2 inches from the brick wall and i was going to install new concrete backer board and then install tile. thanks.

The 2 most common methods are tap con screws or cut [masonary] nails.
