Hole in Textured Ceiling

Due to a plumbing problem upstairs, a patch of the downstairs textured ceiling (approx. 12 in x 12 in) fell. It is obvious that this has been patched by the previous owner. Can you tell me exactly what I need to purchase to get this fixed myself...and how to go about doing that? It's all dry now and the plumbing has been fixed! Thank you very much!

Welcome to the forums

First we need to know what type of texture is on the ceiling. I assume that the hole has already been patched with a piece of sheetrock or is it in need of replacing?

The basics are - remove all weakened rock, replace with new, tape and mud as needed, then texture to match.

There are many different textures. Popcorn the most well know comes in a bag - mix with water and spray. Most others can be made with thinned down joint compound.
