Question Reasonable bid for drywall

I am in the process of getting bids for a drywall install. The first bid I received included 40 sheets of 4x12. The cost for all material and labor of hanging and finishing would be $3500. Is that reasonable?

Welcome to the forums. It is often difficult for us to corraborate on pricing, since it is different in all parts of the country(ies). I live in the South, and it will run about $50 per sheet for installation and finishing to accept paint. Not sure what sheetrock goes for in your area, so that would have to be added in. The quote you stated, doesn't seem to be that far out of reason, but you should always get other estimates to be sure.

Drywall installation

I made the possible mistake of getting a recommended small contractor to help remodel my bathroom. The room is about 4ft by 8 1/2 ft with a tub alcove of 33 in deep by 60 in long going back into one wall.. There is one door and one 30" x 36" mirror (I already had it roughed in) and a 48" vanity below it (this was completely across the floor width so we had to skip drywalling the area on one side). The room was bare studs and in good condition at the beginning-no mold or any such problem. I am curious as to how long it should take to hang the drywall. Can anyone give me a rough answer. I believe it took 11 or 12 sheets of 48"x96" greenboard.

Skip - you kind of hijacked Conwayscrapper's post. Better to start your own thread since your question is unrelated to this one.

Typically a sheet rock contractor will put up the sheetrock on a small job like yours in one day. He would probably also put on the bed coat and tape. Day 2 gets a sand and second coat that might take a couple of hours and then he's gone to another job. Day 3 finish ready to paint probably another couple of hours.

That's a good price pretty much anywhere, real good if in the N.E. Keep in mind that this is not a big job so there is no quantity discount.

no...its a little high...the most i would charge is $1 a square foot for board and tape and you have less than 2000
thats $2000 and the materials should be about $1000...so $3000 absolute tops....!
...and $1 a sq. ft is the absolute most u can charge without it being robbery

Hope this helps

BoiseCC, welcome to the forums. Hope he got the sheetrock hung, as it was over two years ago. $1000 for 40 sheets of rock???? Not. More like $360.
