need hints on repairing textured ceiling

our living room ceiling is textured (I guess I would describe it as light popcorn finish).
We are changing some recessed lighting and will need to repair places where previous lights were (about 7" x7")
-- questions:
1) what is the best way to replace texture in an area that small?
2) is there any way to match the paint without painting the entire ceiling (hopefully)

thanks in advance for your assistance

#1 - best way is to mix up the same type of texture [popcorn comes in fine, medium & coarse] spray texture [with hopper] on the repair and feathering it out onto the surrounding areas. Small areas can be done with texture in aerosol can - I've not used them, results from others are mixed.

#2 - depends on the paint but generally no. The older the paint the less likely it would be that it will touch up successfully.
