How Thick Should My Drywall Be?

Hello,
I'm finishing a bare wall in my garage and I'm wondering how thick the drywall should be? I installed three electrical boxes that had a preset of 3/8". If I have to go thicker than that, should I move them out or is that okay?

Living in SE Wisconsin.

Thanks,
Jeremy

It would be better to use 1/2" drywall, sometimes code dictates 5/8" for the walls against living space. If the studs are more than 16" OC don't use 3/8" drywall.

I think the boxes will be ok with 1/2" drywall but I'm neither an electrician or elec inspector.

1/2" should be used. As to the electric boxes, they are not supposed to be dead flush with the outside of the drywall. If they are sticking out 3/8" from the stud you will be fine.
