New texture over old?

My ceiling has a light crows foot texture on it now and I want to put a rold texture over it. Do I need to rough up the crows foot first?

Thanks,

What's a "rold texture" ?

Obviously any loose/weak edges of the old texture should be knocked off. The existing texture may show thru new texture. It is usually best to texture over a smooth ceiling.

Rolled is just using a paint roller and rolling it on. The existing texture is good as for as no peielling and such. Has a broen spot but I'm going to paint with keils first.

Any textured ceiling can be painted. Kilz primer isn't neccesary over a stomped [crowsfoot] texture unless you have water stains.

If you just want to paint the ceiling use a 3/4"- 1" roller cover to apply the paint. Texture paint can also be applied with a roller but specific attention will need to be paid to applying it evenly.
