Need Help Anchoring a shelf

Hi! We've purchased a shelf with hangers for our kids' backpacks and jackets. We started with anchors, but the shelf eventually pulled out. Now we're trying heavy-duty anchors with molly screws, but we've hit metal when trying to insert the anchors.
We're not very handy--and could use some advice. Thanks!

Shelf

Where are you locating shelf?
Do you have metal or wood studs in the wall?

The shelf is being installed in a window alcove. I do think we're near the metal part of the stud. I'm thinking we just need to move
it over a bit and that we shouldn't try to drill through the metal.
