Installing Ceiling Tiles

I have the idea that the steps to put a tile ceiling up are

installing furring strips perpindicular to joistings, then screw/

staple/adhere tiles/panels to the furring strips/joists. Then maybe

making sure the border tiles are cut appropriately sized.

My question is, can i mount 2'x2' or 2'x4' drop in ceiling panels similar

to how i would mount the 12" tiles? thanks...

I think you're talking about 2 different styles of ceiling tiles. One type, the 12x12 kind, staple to furring, like you described. The 2x2 and 2x4 panels are for "drop ceilings" and need to have a grid installed first, which is suspended from eyelets and wires. Drop ceilings reduce the ceiling height by at least 3-6".

My three options that i were looking at were:

1) 12"x12" tiles attached to furring strips
2) 2'x2' or 2'x4' drop-in panels used in grid
3) 2'x2' or 2'x4' panels used with furring strips

I was looking at the 3rd option w/ furring strips.

I asked someone and it can be done, i guess no one
has ever thought much of this ceiling type option before.

*If you never have seen this option before, thanks for helping me anyway!
