Ceiling stain is not going away...

Hi,

I am currently in the process of painting on one of my bedroom. There is an old dried up water stain (kind of dark brown color) on my ceiling ( I believe I have a plaster ceiling not drywall). I had done the following to the stain spot... a layer of compound, sand it and put on two coats of Benjamin Moore Primer (Professional grade) and multiple layers of Benjamin Moore ceiling paints (white color) and the stain still does not go away. The satin comes right back on once the paint gets dried. Any suggestion or recommendation would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You are using the wrong primer. Water stains always require the use of an oil base primer, for stubborn stains use a pigmented shellac primer. Latex paint on it's own will never hide the stain.
