How to layout sheetrock
Hello,
Currently in the process of sheetrocking my basement and have a question on the best way to hang the drywall given the following scenario:
I'm looking to put drywall on a 16' long soffit which comes off the ceiling 10". Is it best to put 2 lengths of 8' with a butt joint in between or should I place the drywall vertically throughout the span which would put tapered joints every 4' but would require more taping? Also, because I will be adding corner beading I will now have a couple areas where the taper exists on a corner if I run the rock in this manner.
Thanks,

I would use two 8' pieces and have one butt joint. Also the tapered end of the 8' long ripper should go up against the ceiling, rather than on the corner that gets the metal corner bead. You never want a tapered edge behind a metal corner bead if you can help it.
