how to beutify flourescents in recessed ceiling

I took down some old translucent ceiling panels in my kitchen and found that I have a nice 12" deep recess with two 4' long flourescents which really light up my kitchen. The conduits are exposed. I like my recess and the amount of light I get but those flourescents and exposed conduits are industrial looking. Though my kitchen is semi modern, I need to do something about the industrial look of my ceiling but not sure what to do without losing the lighting and losing the recess.

Any ideas?

Not sure I understand.

Did you have a drop ceiling that you removed that had fluorescent lights mounted above them with the translucent panels below them?

You might consider removing the flourescent fixture and replace it with several recessed lighting cans which can give you plenty of light. You can select the positioning of each can to assure good lighting in all portions of the kitchen.

Good luck.

Buy mirror finish eggcrate panels and put them where the old panels were. Change the color of the bulbs to day light color.

amaracan,
I'm not sure what you mean by daylight colored bulbs. Are they more bluish or yellowish?
