Pillar support or decorative

I am trying to find out if a small box with a pillar on top of it is actually a support for a beam. I have a two story slab house. So no basment and no direct access to the first floor ceiling to see if there is a beam there or not. This is in between my living room and dining room. Thanks for the help if any other information is needed just ask.

Check with local building inspector to see if they have a copy of your plans on file. Depending when home was built, they may have them.

One simply can not look at a column and say it is load bearing, as you know. If the column is hollow like the decorative ones, then it likely just decorative. Sometimes the decorative columns come in two halves, and folks buy these to hide metal pole supports like often found in basements.
