New walls

I am putting up some new walls in my house. Do I need to cut away the drywall where they meet the existing walls and ceilings? Appreciate the assistance in advance.

Ceiling yes, walls no. You should make sure you nail the top and bottom plates into joists or if it dosnt work out that way then you should put in some blocking. No need to nail to the walls.

coops28, why do you say to remove the drywall from ceilings? I do not see any reason to, other than to add blocking if needed.

Just so you can have enough room for nailing. In my opinion it will be a more stable wall if its nailed directly into a joist and without the drywall.

Thanks for the replies. I was planning on cutting it away to tie in to the existing framng, but this will save a lot of time.

I will have to put blocking in for one of the walls as it runs with the rafters and the other runs across them. Thanks again.
