drywall to slump block

I have finished installing new drywall and am now at the windows. The windows were set into the slump block leaving about a 6" sill inside and the drywall was in some way 'glued' to the slump block around the windows. There is insufficient room for installing a wood frame without having to install all new windows (exceeds my budget!). What would be the best way to attach the drywall to the slump block? Should I first seal the slump block?

I'm not familiar with the term 'slump block'

It's never a good idea to install drywall directly to masonary. Would using plywood and casing be a better alternative?

You can glue it using drywall adhesive. wedge something in between to hold it while the glue dries.

due to the limited thickness space between sill and window
(3/4") I was considering sealing, then gluing on 1/2" 'Hardyboard' and then gluing 1/2" drywall over that. Would that work, or is it 'overkill'?
