Crown Molding and Textured Ceiling

Our house has crown molding that was installed over the textured ceiling. Eventually, we want to remove the textured ceiling. Can the crown molding remain in place? Or, must the molding be removed and reinstalled after the ceiling is smoothed? Now, we are just installing a short piece of molding over some new cabinetry and we are aware of the space above the molding. I'm hoping that we can just chaulk the space. In the winter, we have several places where a space opens up in the chaulk joints.

There is a lot of movement in some homes due to seasonal changes. You "can" caulk the top of your crown moulding but if you do, you should know that you will probably need to re-caulk it every spring and fall, depending on the amount of movement that occurs. It's just one of those things you can't control.
