Framing a Basement
I'm tackling framing for the 1st time...in my basement. What would be the best way to go about doing this..should I build the wall & toenail it into the joists above or should I lay a footer & nail the studs into the footer & the joists above? Any help would be appreciated..thanks.

Personally I prefer to frame a stud wall on the floor and tilt it into position. Just be aware that you have to build the stud wall shorter than the joist to floor height. I build it 1-1/2" shorter than the lowest joist. After the wall is up you can add an additional top plate to fill in the gap. If your bottom plate is on concrete use PT lumber or a moisture barrier.

first install the subfloor, either with foamboard or a plastic underlayment that allows drainage .
Then install foam board on the walls.
Then frame up against the foam board.
I know you didn't ask this, but in case you aren't doing this, I thought I'd mention it.
