drop ceiling grid strong enough to hold actual stone tiles
Suppose you had a 12x12 drop ceiling grid
Suppose instead of using 12x12 foam or fiberglass or even tin tiles, you used stone floor tiles. Or glass panes.
Yes, there is a reason. I wish to backlight a stone or glass tile ceiling. I can't just tile the ceiling, the tiles need nothing behind them, and clearance for light fixtures.
The question is, will I need to have my grid custom fabricated, or is there an off the shelf product available that is strong enough.
And yes, I don't just plan to sit the tiles in position, I'll secure them with epoxy (fixture access will be through the side).

The grid system probably wouldn't hold the weight over the total span. Now, one every once in a while in a normal ceiling you may get away with it. How are you going to make the grids 12x12? By offsetting the 2' pieces? they don't make a 1' crossmember to my knowledge.

there are standard 1' square ceiling tile systems.
the span is only about 5x4
I'm sure I'll have to have something custom made, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone used a product good enough before.
