Black spots on wall
Hi,
I was cleaning behind the sofa and noticed there were few black spots on the wall between the window and skirting board.
I could wash them off easily and now it looks like they have never been there. All the external walls pointing is pretty new: can you please advise on what causes them and how to prevent them?
Thanks

Thanks for your reply: I do not have a picture I am afraid as I have cleared them now.
How can I lower the humidity?
Also, is it just a matter of moving the couch away from the wall from time to time in order to improve the circulation?
Thanks again

Pick up a simple humidity gauge so you will know when the humidity is too high. Simply opening a window a bit introduces cold dry air and will quickly lower the humidity. Going to the source, take shorter showers, run the exhaust for 20 minutes after showers, be sure exhaust is vented to outside, don't dry clothing inside, be sure dryer vent is not blocked and is vented to outside, minimize boiling water, and look for water leaks, like in the basement, or a dirt floor basement.
Controlling the source and increasing the venting will reduce the humidity. Also, moving the couch away from the wall will help as it blocks the heat and a cold wall will condense out the moisture from the air.

A Dehumidifier would remove the moisture but in my experience running them during the winter months do not work well. Opening a window a little in the kitchen while you cook or make tea (I see your in London
) might help too.
