Paper Faced Metal Corner Bead Problem

Hey All, If anyone has used this paper faced product from USG maybe you can help with my issue. While removing the excess mud under the tape on my corner bead I was distracted and missed a section. By the time I realized the error it was dry. Now I have a lumpy area under the tape and cant seem to figure a way out. If I try to sand it out the paper will be destroyed.
The only option I see is removing the affected section. Any thoughts??

Destroy the paper. Cut across the tape and the metal strips above and below your boo boo. Remove all the stuff that is causing the bulge, and start over with a piece the same size as the one you pulled off.

If the metal part is ok, you can probably get by with just removing the paper portion and remudding that section. How big of an area is it?
