Screws too large for wall's wooden studs?

Hi,

I need to hang a hammock inside house. I do have 7/16" threaded eye hooks already. Is this size of screws too large for studs (2x4)?

My concern is that screws this wide (7/16) might split the studs becasue 2x4's are only 1.5 inches wide.

I would like to use the 7/16 size if possible because of their high load rating!

Thanks for any advice.

Pre-drilling

drill a pilot hole of about 1/4". the threads grip thoroughly, but your not crushin wood fibers.

Thanks, will do that.

Nice thing is that screw eyes can be tightened in with cross tools though the eye holes for handles.

You may find a screw eye will not support your weight. Hopefully not the hard way.

I have a porch swing supported by two that size using pilot holes and it has been up for three years. It supports 300lbs without any sign of giving out.
