Ceiling Options

Would like to get a few ideas on what I can do for my basement ceiling. It is a low ceiling.. around 72". The house was built in 1947. I can hear the TV and footsteps above.

A few options I have thought about:

I'm looking for noise reduction and looks. Can I just cut accoustical ceiling tiles to size and glue them between the joists?

How about some sprayed in foam insulation between the joists and sheet rock?

It's something I have considered. I don't plan on putting up sheetrock though. I would want the foam painted to match the room. Is there a website anywhere with more info on doing it?

Nope. There's a wood flooring laminate on the main level. With it being a slightly older house I don't believe the subfloor is very thick either.

Without having carpet or some throw rugs, I don't think anything on the ceiling below is going to do much good. That's why condos & coops require 80% carpet.

I guess we do have one 6x9 rug in the middle of the room. It might just be something I hafta deal with.
    Thanks for the input.
