cost comparisions
We possibly will be building a new 3/2 home in north Florida in the nxt 8-10 momths and would like to know the comparetive costs between concrete block and brick; wood or steel studs; asphalt or steel roofing. I'm looking for the best bang for the buck and recognize there could be differences in labor costs also. I would appreciate anyone's input. Thanks, ahasbeen

I'm not exactly qualified to give a good answer but I'll share my thoughts :
I used to live in fla and believe you'd be better off with block construction. Most houses there are typically built on a slab and wood framing put's the wood/siding too close to the ground [think insects

IMO a metal roof would last longer. The intense fla sun is hard on an asphalt shingle. I've painted new homes that needed a new roof within 10 yrs. The fiberglass shingles seemed to last a little longer. I'm sure there is a big difference between the low cost and top of the line shingles.
I suspect both block construction and metal roofing would cost more

Your best bet would be to talk to a couple local builders, your questions leave a lot of room for variables
As for bang for the buck, are you looking for short term or long term? A metal roof is going to cost more up front but last longer and likely save you money long term.
