I have to put up a drop ceiling but I do not have a lot of room, is it possible to put it only two inches from the rafters?

Don't want to bust your bubble, but you will need a minimum of 3 inches in order to get the tiles in at an angle. I have done it with less, but using the fiberglas type panels. They are more forgiving than the rigid ones.

What about if a person leaves out a cross tee in each main tee run?(until the tiles are up there), so that a person could feed them through that opening? You'd still have to tilt them some though to miss the main tee support wires.

Then how would you get the cross tees in? With all the tiles in place the grid would be too rigid to move, IMO. On second thought, you could possibly do it if you left the tiles sitting on top of the grid until all the cross pieces were in place, install the last cross piece, then drop in the tiles. PITA, but so is life.
