gap between wall and ceiling before mudding?

I am redoing some drywall and in some places where the ceiling meets the wall there is a 1/4 to 3/8 gap between the two boards, because of the ceiling not being flat.. How do you fill that? Do you just fill it on the tape coat with mud or do you fill it in first with something else?

Thanks,

Scott

I'd fill it with a setting type compound and then mud and tape after that sets up nice and hard for you

1/4" is iffy but anything wider should be prefilled. You don't want that much wet mud under the tape or it might pull the tape loose

Ok, I went and got some Durabond 45, and will pre fill with that and let it set for a day or two and then tape.

Thanks again,

Scott

Durabond 45 sets fast, no need to wait a couple of days, an hour or so should be good.
