USG Fiberock and vinyl tiles

I used a couple of 1/4x3x5 USG Fiberock sheets on a wall behind a utility sink in my laundry room. I tried sputting vinyl peel and stick tiles on the boards but they don't stick. I also tried an adhesion primer but still no luck.

What would be the best way to make these tiles stick? Would skim coating the wall work? It is only a 5x7 wall.

The cbu you used has a concrete face, and is dusty as well as slick. I doubt you will be able to get peel and stick anything to stick to it. You may try skim coating it first, but the tiles you have already exposed to the cbu will need an adhesive. You may try one of the premixed (yuk) tile adhesives with a v notched trowel. It would give the tiles a better adhesion property.

I would add that if you skim coat the cbu with joint compound, it would be a good idea to prime the j/c - it's water soluble and if it gets wet........

What about a thin coat of liquid nails or some other type of adhesive?

A vinyl tile adhesive would work but as noted above - while it will stick good to the tiles, there's no garuntee that it will adhere well to the cbu.
