mobile home ceiling repair
i have a 1970 mobile home with a drop ceiling. whoever installed it did not put up adequate insulation and NO vapor barrier. i plan to remove the drop ceiling and install sheet rock w/fiberglass insulation/vapor barrier.
my problem is that the aluminum roof is visable when the drop ceiling panels are popped out. condensation is apparent in many places. i am thinking of sealing the bare aluminum with drylok or hy-tech ceramic paint additive as the first line of defense against condensation. any thoughts on how best to seal the aluminum??
i have already sealed the roof with GACO silcon sealant. no leaks from rain/snow.

I don't know that any type of sealant painted on the underside of the roof metal will make any difference. I believe you'd be better off installing as much insulation as feasible and a vapor barrier [between the drywall and insulation]
I'm curious about the drop ceiling. I don't know that I've ever seen one installed in a MH, especially the older ones with a flat [crown] roof as they typically never have more than 7' high ceilings. You'll probably need to stiffen up the MH roof "trusses" in order for them to adequately support drywall. The original ceiling was probably celotex which is quite a bit lighter than drywall.

good point. well, re-bracing the rafters is just another step i can do myself. i couldn't believe the drop ceiling either, but there it was. there was maybe 6 inches between it and the rafters. thanks
