Question Bathroom ceiling question

Hi. We are renovating two bathrooms in our house. We removed old ceiling tiles that had been installed very badly using adhesive. The adhesive was thick and difficult to remove. The ceilings are plaster under the tiles. After removing the ceiling tiles the echo in the bathrooms has been unbearable. Could someone please recommend a type of drywall or other material that could be used in the bathrooms to reduce the sound level? I am not concerned about blocking exterior sounds but only reducing the echo of the sounds in the rooms. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums

What kind of tiles did you remove? My thought when someone says 'tile' is ceramic but they would have provided no noise mitigation

No, not ceramic. Other than old, we're not entirely sure what they were. They were kind of like foam only heavier.

Yeah, I figured they must have been some kind of soft material to have reduced noise

Soft is the key - hard materials will reflect sound

That might be why those acoustical tiles where installed in the first place

Maybe hanging a heavy drape like curtain in front of the shower curtain would help.
