To bevel old ceiling or not?
I am replacing a 8' by 2' section of ceiling in a garage. The finish is a light orange peel. The question is: What is the proper method of repairing the new long edge which butts against the existing finished/previously taped long edge? The previously taped long edge was butted to a cabinet that was removed.
Should I sand down the proposed joint area, rip out the tape, rasp out a bevel?
What about the wall to ceiling corner joint, anything special going between a stucco wall (sand finish) and the new drywall?
Thanks

It would be best to remove any tape that is adjacent to the replacement piece of drywall. Once you retape expect to finish the joint out a little wider than normal - that should hide any discrepancies.
Is the wall drywall or masonry? If drywall you should scrape down some of the texture at the top, tape finish and retexture. With masonry you would just flat tape the ceiling to the wall and then caulk - you could do the same with drywall if you don't want to have to touch up the wall texture.
