we have a 100 yr old victorian we stripped off several layers of wall paper. the walls are slightly rough and pourous. we would like to paint. is it necessary to skim coat? Is there some kind of paint/sealer we could use instead of skim coating/liner paper?

some help
You can come up with some thing that will...All most work..
but the finsh project will let you down..you need to install at least one coat of mud, sand and check--if you can live with that, texture and paint..If you are going to wall paper again do not textur but get a under paper from you wall paper supplyer and install first this will help smooth out some of the rough spots on the wall..Don't forget to size the wall with sizing before you install any paper..
