Widening the load bearing opening

Hi everyone, great info on here. It's been very informative. I need some help on widening the opening of a load bearing wall. Basically all I want to do is make the walkway opening of a load bearing wall about 16" wider. If you look at the picture, I want to bring the end of the wall parallel to the fireplace to the first stud (four pieces of drywall still stuck to it) I have already removed the wall perpendicular to the fireplace up to the corner studs. Will I need a header beam in there if I am only removing those studs in the corner?

Thanks!

I don't think that's a load bearing wall but if it is, I would install a header.

Thanks for your input. All of the beams from the roof come down along that wall which runs the entire width of the house with the exception of that walkway and near the fireplace. I'll double check to see if anything is supported by this little part of the wall.

According to what he is saying, the wall with the door opening has been removed and he wants to know about the small return wall that goes to the brick. I think you need to a poke a hole in the ceiling and see what is going on up there. If the ceiling joists are running perpendicular to the fireplace they will need someplace to land in the middle of the house. I doubt they make the span all the way across. That's just too far.
