Hi, I just bought my first house. There appears to be a little bit of mold on the ceiling above the shower. What can/should I do to get rid of it? I don't know what kind of mold it is. It's dark brown/blackish in color. Thanks!

I just bought a great old 1905 house. All of the walls/ceilings need work. Many are painted wallpaper or paneling over plaster, I know how to deal with that. But the stucco/texturized walls and ceilings have thrown me for a loop. In the end, I would like all of the walls and ceilings to be smooth, like plaster or drywall, but and uncertain as to the best method to achieve this (ie, thick finishing mud over the texture to flatten it out, dry wall over it all, sand it down until smooth (if so what specific type of sander), tear down the walls completely, etc.) The various combinations include: (1) Ceilings: painted, texturized with a swirly pattern, over plaster. (2) Walls: light "stucco"/sponge-like pattern-texture over plaster. (3) Walls: light "stucco"/sponge-like pattern-texture over wallpaper over plaster. (4) Walls: very very heavy stucco (2-3inches deep) over what appears to be directly over the lathe on one wall and over cement? on the other new construction wall. Much thanks in advance! Heather
