Drywall installation: outside corner

Framed for small utility closet and now in process of installing the drywall. I came across a situation where there will be 1 side of a corner where the edge running from floor to ceiling will be tapered and on the corresponding edge it would be tapered except for the top 2' where there would be a butt edge. I am a novice with little experience in taping and applying joint compound. I do intend installing an outside corner bead. My question is whether I should remove a section of the drywall already installed and purchase another sheet and do away with the 2' butt to tapered corner, imagine if it can be done it would be a finishing nightmare. Appreciate any suggestions, input.

I'm having a hard time visualizing the corner could you supply a pic or two?

I personally would not put the tapered edge of drywall on a corner, at least not an outside one.

I think I understand now - maybe my thinking cap isn't on backwards today

If you don't want to replace the drywall, you can prefill the tapered edge with joint compound.

yeah, outside corners should never have tapered edges. But prefilling is a good idea if you don't want to replace it. Fill the taper up with mud, let it dry, then put your corner bead on.

I will pull the 1 side with the tapered edge and see if able to rotate from head to toe and see if it fits. Did I mention it's a vintage cabin where nothing is square or level. Anyhow, intend picking up a couple pieces of sheet rock and replace as needed. I really appeciate the information from all, it's very helpful.

Thank you, dave
