12 foot header

Hello all. I want to remove a load bearing wall that is 12 feet long. What size lumber should I use? Would double 2x12s be enough? And do I need two jack studs on each end for support or would one be enough for that long of a span? Or would I be better off using double 12 inch lvls?

Header

You have not told us what is above the load bearing wall.

Have an engineer look at your project and make a recommendation.

Welcome to the forums. As Ken said, an engineer is a must in this instance. We can't give such advice, since we are sitting hundreds of miles from you with no more insight than you gave us. I would recommend LVL beams rather than dimension lumber for a header.
