need 2' of additonal shear wall.

I have a shear wall but I need to add an addition 2' to 3' of shear to meet current code requirements. Do I need to open the whole wall for inspection or can I just add 2' of shear at a door opening. We will be getting rid of the door.

Your question would best be answered by whoever told you that additional shear wall is required. Which I suspect would be the local building department people.

Talk to the building official face-to-face and give him a couple of proposals. If you communicate well, they will tell you what they could approve. Do that correctly and you will be home free.

Sure cheaper than getting an engineer involved to create drawings and a solution.
