LED rope lighting in ceilings
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/phot...eat=directlink
I saw this photo of a master bedroom ceiling and wall and I liked how it really makes the room glow. I want to do it to my own master bedroom but I cant seem to find a construction detail so that my handy man can do this for me. How was this ceiling supported anyway? Am I running into problems by trying to carve out my existing ceiling to put in LED rope lighting?
Ps. I dont want to use crown moldings. This is a modern looking house and there are no moldings anywhere throughout the house.

That's exactly what it looks like, a carved out ceiling & partitioned walls if front of the existing walls. It seems doable but alot of work. Who is promoting the sale of that style?

What you are seeing in the picture is a direct drop trey ceiling (called different things elsewhere, I'm sure). It isn't "carved" out of the ceiling, but is dropped to allow for accent lighting in the wall voids. Unless you have tall ceilings, it won't look right, as you will lose 4-6" of height in your ceiling just for lights. You could always build valances around the room and install lighting in the valances. If you are wanting to use rope lighting, they valances wouldn't have to be too deep, either. Just an idea.
