cultured stone

I am apllying cultured stone to our fireplace front. I have it sheeted in durarock and was told I can use a premium premixed thinset to put the stone up. Also we would like to color our mortar for grouting, can I use a colored sanded grout that is used for tiling?

One thing you might have to deal with is the stone slipping out of place when you stick it to the Durock. If you hold it in place for a while and it slips just put some screws in strategic places below the stone to hold them up until the mortar sets then remove the screws before you grout. You do not grout this stone as you would tile. To rub grout into the stone will stain it. Instead squeeze the grout through a grout bag and tool it to the desired finish. This should be a pretty installation when you are finished.

I understand the grout process I was wondering if I can use colored sand grout from tiling but use it with a baker bag?

If it will squeeze through the bag it should work.
