Finding studs in ceiling

I am trying to find the studs in a ceiling with a vaulted ceiling and textured finish. I cannot slide my stud finder on it without knocking of the texture??? And I don't really want to poke holes either.

Anyone know of an easy way to find these studs?

Thanks...

Use a magnet or a magnetic stud finder (they look like a toggle light switch with a magnet on the end) and move it around (touch it to the surface, don't slide it) until you find a nail or screw. It will take a lot of trial and error but you will eventually find one.

Old speaker magnets are the best because of their size. I like to tear old speakers apart (like out of old car doors) just for the magnets!

I took a narrow strip of poster board, and held it to the ceiling, and ran the stud finder over that.
