Blending Old Cornerbead and New
Got flooded. Cut lower 24".
Old Cornerbead was metal. All my *new* cornerbead is NoCoat 450. It's much *thinner* when mudded out.
Option A : Mud out and layer the NoCoat to match the thickness of the metal bead/upper wall height
Option B: Rip out the metal bead and just do 1 full corner of No Coat. I think the exisiting old wall will still be thick with the taped/feathered mud that was tied into the metal corner bead

Lost a post......the bottom of the metal cornerbead where you cut it will haunt you. I would pull all the corners and use the 450 or Ultraflex (may be the same)

The issue is the MUD buildup.
Metal Cornerbear 1" flange
No Coat - 1 1/2" Flange
In looking at the *mud layer buildup* where the metal bead was, there is at least mud buildup greater than 1/32 but less than 1/16" on the leading edge where the metal bead was pulled off..
Square tight corners....I can spot. Grrrr...
Either option is a compromise. Been using No coat for a good while. love the corners I get out of them...Much less tapering and feathering
If I rip metal and then use no coat, I'm still following the thicker mud taper, if then adding more...

The taper will smooth out once you get the no coat on it. Use a wider knife to do your final swipe of mud. Having that metal to no coat joint will cause more work than it is worth.
