Need help

My daughters bedroom has had an artist paint a sceen on her walls. we coated it with gloss polyurethane it is way two glossy. Can I put satin finish poly of the same brand over it to cover up the gloss.

I think that you would have to sand it first but it might work.

Yes. That said, oil based polyurethane has a little amber tint to it, I would only use water based for this.

Yes, you would need to scuff sand lightly with 220 grit paper to get good adhesion between the coats of polyurethane.

There are rarely any issues with applying satin poly over gloss poly. As stated above it does need to be sanded lightly so the new coat of poly will adhere. Was your 1st coat of poly water based or oil base?
