Custom shower stall
In making a custom shower stall I am putting up cement backer board. Do I need to put it on the ceiling as well as opposed to drywall? Do I need to put anything else on the wall first?

I built one for my father & I used green board on the ceiling. I didn't use anything else on the wall.
May I suggest a Hans Grohe shower body. It remembers the temperature of your last shower. ($600)

The greenboard is fine for the ceiling. You will need to insulate the walls and put on a 6 mil vapor barrier before you install your cbu. Use a concrete friendly mesh tape and thinset on all your joints/corners and you're ready to tile. You didn't mention anything about your shower pan, so hopefully you have that under control.

Thanks for the help. I assume the vapour barrier is to keep any moisture that gets through the cement board from going any further. In which case it is necessary even if all the walls are interior walls. Is that correct?
The shower pan i had some help with and it is all set. Thanks.

Oops, sorry, didn't read where they were all inside walls. No, only exterior walls really need insulation, although it does help as far as sound deadening properties if you insulate. Yes, the vb keeps moisture at bay should it get past your cbu. Good deal on the shower pan.
