Wall Vents for air circulation

Hello all,

I'm brand new to this forum, but excited to get to work on my next project.

I'm building a dog house for my two dogs. I'm probably going a little overkill, but I like building cool things. The dog house will be 4'x4' on the inside, and will be fully insulated with 2x4 walls. I'm wondering if there are any simple vents I can put into the walls that I can open in the summer to get air circulation, but close in the winter to keep the warm air in. Do you have any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Zach

Welcome to the forums, and great that you are taking the pains to make it comfortable for your best friends. If you are building a gable type roof, you could put in a sort of crawlspace block vents that are closeable up in the gable. That is where the hottest air is, and since you can close them, you can retain heat in the winter. As a matter of fact, the ones I am linking you to as an example only are automatic, so you won't forget. Lowes.com : Replace a Foundation Vent

I'm not sure what you mean by gable. I plan on building my own trusses, if that is what you mean. If I installed this into the roof, like suggested, but I had insulation in the roof as well, will the air get out sufficiently? Would I put them directly on the very top of the roof, or under it somewhere? Also, will water get in if it's raining? Lastly, thanks for the linked instructions. Could you possibly link to the item as well so I don't buy the wrong item? Thanks a ton for your help.

I'm not sure what you mean by gable.
A gable is the generally triangular portion of a wall between the edges of a sloping roof.

Nash linked you to the definition of a gable. It would not be mounted on the roof, but vertically on the gable at the end of your trusses. Insulate around it and allow it to vent air. You could, likewise install a short ridge vent on the roof top.
