half walls - enough support??
We are building two half walls in our master bath for a corner shower. The walls will be 22" long with a height of 41". We are planning on adding (anchoring) a 2 x 6 stud in the existing walls and will be anchoring the half walls to those. In addition, we are going to bolt the bottom 2 x 4 of the half wall to the sub floor. Neither wall lands next to a floor joist, so we do not have a way to anchor them to the joists. These half walls will turn a corner on the end and go a few inches around the angle (each angle is different as one side of the shower will be a bit longer than the other - so not a perfect neo- angle shower - although still not sure how we will do this). These walls will be tiled on the shower side, sheetrocked on the other. They will support shower glass on top of them as well. Each sheetrocked side butts up to a vanity. Will these walls be stable enough doing it this way????

Since the wall turns a corner, and will have a vanity on the other side, it should be okay. Bolts shouldn't be necessary, but construction adhesive and screws will be a good idea. It will help if the sole plate on the front wall continues through from one side to the other to overlap the side walls. And you will want to make sure the corner framing (google 3 stud corner) is all secured together. You will also surely have a curb of some type at the doorway, and a floor membrane over the floor and up the walls, right? Or is this handicapped accessible so that a wheelchair can just roll in?
