drywall celling

I want to remove the drywall on my garage celling and not replace it. Its a one story house. Is this a bad idea?

I guess one question is why? But yes...it's not a good idea. A fire in the garage would rapidly spread to the rest of the upper part of the house. Thats why they require the garage be finished on any parts that connect to the living area.

It's even worse in some areas. CA requires a fire wall between the garage and the rest of the attic...AFAIK.

As Vic said, this might be a code violation. We have to put two layers on garage ceilings in our units here.
